OEUI PROFILE
The Ohio Electric Utility Institute (OEUI) is a non-profit state
trade association representing investor-owned electric companies in Ohio.
The
member companies include:
Together, the four companies provide electricity to more than over 4.8 million
Ohio customers. The companies
employ over 19,000 people. They financially support over 16,000
retirees. More than 95,000 Ohioans own stock in these companies.
The companies operate 218 plants and facilities in Ohio. The companies
pay over $1 billion in state and local taxes each year.
Founded on January 12, 1951, OEUI's current Mission Statement reads:
"The Ohio Electric Utility Institute is an association of investor-owned utilities
that assists its member companies in providing value to customers, employees and investors
by:
-Identifying and promoting common positions on issues impacting the industry.
-Sharing information among its members.
-Educating internal and external audiences concerning issues affecting the industry."
OEUI sponsors educational activities and
produces publications about the companies and industry issues.
OEUI was named by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio as the
contract administrator for the Ohio Electric Choice consumer education
campaign in 2000-2005. OEUI was a partner with the PUCO and the Ohio Consumers'
Counsel in helping to develop the campaign to educate Ohioans about electric
restructuring.
